GROUND-PENETRATING RADAR (GPR)

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) image subsurface structures by transmitting short electromagneticpulses into the ground and by receiving the reflections. This is considered as being one of the most promising technologies for close detection and identification of buried Anti-Personnel (AP) Landmines, due to its ability of detecting non-metallic objects in the sub-surface. As the technology progressed, GPR started finding applications in civil as defense sectors. The GPR technology addresses the feasibility of detection as well as identification of buried objects. The subject (GPR), with electromagnetic methods have proven to be, thus far, one of the most successful techniques for rendering the ground and its contents

Salient Features:

  • Ability to detect various metallic and non-metallic targets up to a depth of 1m or more.
  • It can also classify explosives and non-explosives.
  • For another application(layer thickness, concealed pipe detection).
